There is nothing better than having a warm bagel smothered in cream cheese in the morning. It is very rare these days that people have malt barley in there pantry, so most recipes that you find these days are made with easy to find ingredients. If you keep one bagel recipe in your cookbook, make sure it is this one!
You can make your life a lot easier by making the dough portion of this recipe in a bread maker, but if you have a few extra minutes, you can easily make these by hand.
Bagel Toppings
This bagel recipe is so easy that you might want to spice things up a little bit. instead of just cream cheese try adding smoked salmon or make a sausage egg and cheese bagel. It’s all up to you. The main event is going to be the homemade bagel so any way you make it is a win win.
Tips to make sure don’t mess up this easy bagel recipe:
Did you know that the number one reason dough doesn’t rise is because the yeast that you used is dead. Yes, that’s right, yeast can die/expire. To test your yeast before you use it, make sure to mix it with warm water and sugar BEFORE you start your recipe. If your yeast doesn’t start to bubble after 5 minutes then you might need to buy some more yeast! Watch my explanation of testing your yeast on my Tiktok page HERE.
Tips:
Don’t forget that everyone’s environment is different and can affect the way your oven cooks and heats. Be sure to keep an eye on your bagel while it cooks and take it out when it gets to your desired browning.
