How to Make Honey Mustard Chicken Marinade

In a bowl or directly in a freezer-safe bag, combine the honey, Dijon mustard, olive oil, vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, garlic & onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully combined.

Add the chicken and toss to coat evenly. From here, you can cook it right away or freeze it for later.

Mustard Variations (Use What You Have)

This marinade is flexible, so don’t stress if you don’t have Dijon on hand:

  • Yellow mustard: Milder and slightly sweeter — great for picky eaters
  • Spicy brown mustard: Adds a little heat and depth
  • Whole-grain mustard: More texture and a gourmet feel
  • Honey mustard: Swap part of the honey and mustard for convenience

You can even mix mustards if you’re feeling adventurous.

How to Cook Honey Mustard Chicken

Once marinated (or thawed), here are your best cooking options:

Oven-Baked

Preheat oven to 400°F. Place chicken in a baking dish and bake for 22–28 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Grilled

Preheat grill to medium heat. Grill chicken for 5–7 minutes per side, depending on thickness. Perfect for summer dinners.

Air Fryer

Cook at 375°F for 10–14 minutes, flipping halfway through. This method gives you slightly caramelized edges with minimal effort.

Stovetop

Heat a skillet over medium heat with a little oil. Cook chicken for 5–6 minutes per side until cooked through and lightly golden.

Freezer Stash Instructions

This marinade is ideal for freezer cooking.

To freeze:
Add all ingredients and chicken to a freezer-safe bag. Remove as much air as possible, seal, and freeze flat.

Freezer life:

  • Best quality for up to 3 months
  • Still safe up to 4 months, but flavor is best before that

To thaw:
Transfer to the refrigerator and thaw overnight. Cook as directed above.

Freezing the chicken in the marinade means the flavor develops as it thaws — less work, more payoff.

What to Serve With Honey Mustard Chicken

This chicken pairs well with:

  • Roasted broccoli or green beans
  • Rice, quinoa, or mashed potatoes
  • Simple side salad
  • Sheet-pan roasted veggies

It’s also great sliced up for wraps, salads, or grain bowls later in the week.

Final Thoughts

This Honey Mustard Chicken Marinade is proof that meal prep doesn’t have to be boring or complicated. Five minutes of prep now = multiple stress-free dinners later.

If you’re building a freezer stash, this is a must-make. And if you’re cooking it fresh tonight? You’ll still feel like you planned ahead.

If you try it, let me know how you cooked it — grill, oven, or air fryer?

Or maybe it’s called Apricot Sweet & Spicy Chicken Or maybe it’s called Apricot Sweet & Spicy Chicken 🍗🔥, choose one.

This chicken is sticky, savory, and has the perfect balance of sweet heat.

I used thighs and drumsticks, seasoned them generously, and roasted them until golden and crispy. But the real magic? That apricot glaze.

It’s buttery, bold, and made with jam, mustard, hot sauce, and ginger paste. I poured it right over the crispy chicken and let it soak in. SO good.

This one’s going on repeat.

Full recipe:
Seasoning Mix:
– 2 tsp baking powder
– 1 tbsp garlic powder
– 1 tbsp onion powder
– 1 tbsp smoked paprika
– 1 tbsp ground mustard
– 1 tbsp black pepper
– 1 tbsp ginger paste
– 1 tsp crushed red pepper
– Salt to taste

Bake: Chicken thighs + drumsticks at 400°F until internal temp reaches 165°F.

Apricot Glaze:
– 2 tbsp butter
– 1 small jar apricot jam
– 1 tbsp yellow mustard
– 1 tbsp hot sauce
– 1 tbsp ginger paste

Melt butter, mix in sauce ingredients, simmer, then pour over the cooked chicken. That’s it!

Would you try this? Save it for dinner this week.
